Institutional Protection Scheme

The Institutional Protection Scheme of the Savings Banks Finance Group (Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe) protects the deposits of German citizens at an institution in the German Savings Banks Finance Group.

The Institutional Protection Scheme has proven itself during crises

The Institutional Protection Scheme of the German Savings Banks Finance Group with its public mission has proven itself for decades and has fulfilled its task even in the face of the financial market crisis.

The Institutional Protection Scheme of the Savings Banks Finance Group protects deposits with a savings bank, a state bank (Landesbank), DekaBank and a state building society (Landesbausparkasse). The aim of the Institutional Protection Scheme is to prevent member institutions from encountering financial difficulties. The scheme accomplishes this through voluntary institutional protection, so that business relationships with clients can continue in accordance with contractual agreements.

The Institutional Protection Scheme therefore offers clients of the German Savings Banks Financial Group the highest possible level of security. Since the Institutional Protection Scheme was established in the 1970s
  • no client of a member institution has ever suffered a loss of his/her deposits
  • no depositors have ever required compensation
  • no insolvency has occurred at any member institution.
