Deka Group is committed to sustainability and social responsibility in order to ensure a liveable future. Sustainability has been a core element of our business strategy since 2015.
The roots of our sustainability management lie in the environmental management. Already in 2009, we introduced an environmental management system certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001. In the same year, we published our first sustainability report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Since 2015, the issue of sustainability has been centrally anchored in our company: at the core of the company – in our business strategy. We have not had a separate sustainability strategy since that time. This has made sustainability a core component of our business policy – and made it transparent to the Board of Directors and the supervisory authority.
We are constantly developing all projects in the area of sustainability as we improve the range of services offered by the Deka Group – and are proud of our success:
We are constantly developing all projects in the area of sustainability as we improve the range of services offered by the Deka Group – and are proud of our success:
- Our climate targets are set out in our business strategy; one target is a five per cent annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
- We also take into account the impact of securities on the environment and have launched the two impact-oriented funds Deka-Nachhaltigkeit Impact Aktien and Deka-Nachhaltigkeit Impact Renten.
- Determination of the carbon footprint for all real estate funds for the first time. With this, we have created the basis for efficient management and further reduction of emissions.
We place great importance on the continuous development of our sustainability performance along these five areas of activity.
- Sustainable Banking
- Sustainable Products
- Sustainable Human Resources Management
- Corporate Citizenship
- Sustainable Corporate Governance
We provide evidence of this in our annual sustainability report. Since 2020, the structure of the Sustainability Report 2020 focuses more strongly on the three thematic areas of environmental, social and governance (ESG for short).
EU action plan for financing sustainable growth
The EU Commission’s action plan for financing sustainable growth provides significant impetus for the Deka Group. The plan aims to make sustainability an equal factor in the financial market. To this end, we participate in discussions and conferences on this topic, throughout Europe.
Sustainability Management Department
The Sustainability Management department reports to the CEO. It coordinates all relevant tasks within the Deka Group. It is also the point of contact on the subject both within the company and for external stakeholders, such as companies and institutions in the German Savings Bank Finance Group (Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe), sustainability rating agencies and non-governmental organisations.
